/Convent of the Sacred Heart (“CSH”) is the oldest New York City independent school for girls, serving students from K-12th grade. CSH is historically Catholic, is open to students of all backgrounds, and is located on the Upper East Side in Manhattan. Convent of the Sacred Heart School NYC | Overview
CSH was founded in 1881 and serves approximately 700 students in K-12. The goals of CSH are to ensure students become more socially aware, grow personally, build community, and respect intellectual values. Each year, students will take typical courses in English, math, science, history, social studies, a foreign language, technology, psychology, and the arts. Throughout all years at CSH, students develop their public speaking skills and communication abilities.
In middle school, CSH students will take drama and music, social justice courses, and computer programming. In the upper school, students will take religion and English each year; three years of science, social studies, mathematics, and a foreign language; and several electives in 11th and 12th grade.
Outside the classroom, students can participate in sports, in Model Congress or UN, musical productions or chorus, programming, service, and others. Upper school students will attend school retreats in the fall or winter each year.

Admissions to CSH are similar for both Middle and Upper school applicants. Applications can be found online for Middle and Upper admissions, and both sets of applications are due by December 1st.
Included in the application will be basic information on the student, with a full transcript and school recommendations (including a math teacher recommendation) due in January, along with ISEE test results. Invited students can visit CSH for a day, with decisions on admission sent out in February.
Convent of the Sacred Heart NYC | How to Prepare for the ISEE
Performance on the applicable ISEE (either middle or upper level) will be key for presenting a strong admissions packet. There is plenty of prep material available for the ISEE, which means students can get familiar with the exam easily.
For both levels, students should be prepared for questions in the following areas: Verbal reasoning – synonym and sentence completion Quantitative reasoning – word problems and quantitative comparisons Reading comprehension – passages and related questions from a variety of genres Math achievement – multiple choice questions on math topics Writing – a response to a prompt which is unscored but sent to CSH
